Schisandra, also known as wu-wei-zi and sometimes spelled with a "z" (Schizandra) ,has a long history of use in  

 

ancient Chinese medicine as an herb capable of promoting general well-being and enhancing vitality.

 

 

In addition to its traditional uses for promoting energy and alleviating exhaustion caused by stress, schisandra has

 

 historically been taken to strengthen the sex organs, to promote mental function, to beautify the skin and to treat 

 

night  sweats, asthma, cough, and insomnia.

 

 

 

Schisandra extract is derived from the small, red berry like fruit from a vine of the magnolia family, native to China  

 

and parts of Japan, Korea and Russia. A rare schisandra vine has also been found in the woody areas of North

 

Carolina and neighboring states.In Chinese medicine, Schisandra is prized for its proposed ability to prolong youth,

 

 increase stamina, and prevent fatigue.

Function:(1) Schisandra chinensis has a significant deenzymatic effect on serum alanine aminotransferase in patients with hepatitis B. Its mechanism is to inhibit the synthesis of the enzyme by liver cells, which has no obvious effect on normal liver, and inhibits the activity of the enzyme even more in the liver with injury.

 

(2) to improve systemic symptoms, such as loss of appetite, fatigue, insomnia, etc. It can protect the liver and promote the regeneration of liver cells, enhance the function of liver detoxification and enhance the function of adrenal cortex, so as to restore the liver function.
