Introduction:
 

Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) is also known as "Indian Ginseng" from ancient times. It is used for traditional Asian therapies & additional disorders also. Ashwagandha is mostly used as an anti-stress tonic in Ayurveda. Ashwagandha brings Vata balance in the body.

 

An erect branching under shrub reaching about 150cm in height usually clothed with minutely stellate tomentum; leaves ovate up to 10cm; flowers greenish or lurid yellow in axillary fascicles, fruits globose berries which are orange-colored when mature enclosed in a persistent calyx. The fleshy roots when dry are cylindrical, gradually tapering down with a brownish white surface and pure white inside when broken.
