Ribes nigrum L. black currant (Ribes nigrum L.), also known as black currant, black bean fruit, purple plum, tea vine genus of tea piedaceae, order Tigeria, is a small shrub. Its mature fruits are small black berries, rich in vitamin C and anthocyanins, which can be eaten. It can also be processed into fruit juice, jam and other foods. Blackcurrant is very rich in vitamin C, phosphorus, magnesium, potassium, calcium, anthocyanins, phenols. Known health benefits of blackcurrant include protection against gout.
