Description:
Smilax aspericaulis is very similar to Sarsaparilla chinensis in form, but the stems and branches are warty and the berries are ovoid (i.e. pear-shaped), with sharp tips and purplish black and easy to identify. Flowering from December to February of the following year, fruiting from July to September.

Function:
