Audited Supplier Echinacea purpurea, commonly known as purple coneflower, is a Native North American medicinal plant in the Asteraceae family. It is named for the prickly scales in its large conical seed head, which resembles the spines of an angry hedgehog (echinos is Greek for hedgehog). The perennial herb has narrow leaves and stout stems that grow from 90 cm to 1.2 m in height that blossom as a single lavender or purple flower head.
