Introduction:
 

Pueraria, the Chinese name for gegen is a perennial, trailing or climbing vine. The whole plant is covered with brown hairs. It is often cut into thick slices when used as medicine. It appears to be white or brown in spring or fall, fibrous, rough and harvested, and rootstock dug out. For centuries, Gegen has been known as Ge Gen in traditional Chinese medicine. The first mention of plants as medicines is in Shen Nong's ancient herbal texts. (c. A.D.100). In traditional Chinese medicine, Pueraria is used to treat thirst, headaches, and neck stiffness, along with pain caused by high blood pressure. Pueraria root extract is also recommended for allergies, migraines, measles outbreaks in children, and diarrhea. Pueraria root extract is also used in modern Chinese medicine to treat angina pectoris.
