Description:
Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare Mill.) herbs in the umbelliferae family, 0.4-2 m high. Stem erect, smooth, gray-green or pale, much branched. Lower stem petiole 5 -- 15 cm long, middle or upper petiole partly or entirely sheathed, sheath margin membranous; Blade profile is broad triangle. Terminal and lateral umbels, peduncles 2 -- 25 cm long; Inflorescences with slender stalks, unequal; Calyx teeth; Petals yellow, obovate or subobovate, anthers ovoid, pale yellow; Styles very short, branching outward or lying appressed on the stylobase. Fruit oblong. Flowering may - June, fruiting July - September.
Function:
1.as an appetite suppressant and to treat stomach problems
2.Fennel has been employed for the treatment of gastroenteritis and indigestion, to prevent gas, dissolve fat, and stimulate lactation
3.It has also been used in the treatment of gout and tonsillitis
4.Fennel is said to possess estrogenic properties and may have a positive effect on menopause and PMS
