Slippery Elm (Ulmus Rubra) is a kind of plant with extremely high economic value. Tree trunks can be used as raw materials for furniture, vehicles, farm tools, appliances, bridges and construction. The bark contains starch and viscous substances, it can be ground into powder to make elm noodles, mixed with flour and edible, and can be used as a raw material for making vinegar. The bark fiber is tough and can be used instead of flax to make ropes, sacks, artificial cotton or paper. Young fruit can be steamed when mixed with flour. Old fruit contains 25% oil and can be used in medicine, light industry and chemical industry. The leaves can be used as feed. The bark, leaves and fruits can all be used medicinally to soothe the nerves and facilitate urination. The plant body of the Slippery Elm contains β-sterol, plant alcohol, stigmasterol and other alcohols, and tannins, gums, and fatty oils.
