Introduction:
Hongqu rice, also known as Hongguo or Hongqu, is made from indica, jing and glutinous rice and fermented by Aspergillus amaranth. It is brownish red or purple-red rice grains. It has the functions of "promoting blood circulation and removing stasis, invigorating spleen and eliminating food, warming and neutralizing stomach". Functional red yeast rice contains monacolin compounds, which have significant lipid lowering effects. The main active ingredient is Lovastatin.

 

Red yeast rice extract is made from red koji. Commercial extracts are usually labeled as lovastatin 4%.
