Camellia japonica, known as common camellia, Japanese camellia, or tsubaki in Japanese, is one of the best known species of the genus Camellia. Sometimes called the rose of winter, it belongs to the family Theaceae. It is the official state flower of the US state of Alabama. There are thousands of cultivars of C. japonica in cultivation, with many colors and forms of flowers. In the U.S. it is sometimes called japonica, a name more often used in the UK for Chaenomeles (flowering quince).
In the wild, it is found in mainland China (Shandong, east Zhejiang), Taiwan, southern Korea and southern Japan. It grows in forests, at altitudes of around 300-1,100 metres (980-3,610 ft).
The leaf of the Camellia japonica is rich in anti-inflammatory terpenoids such as lupeol and squalene.
Application:1. As the biologic character, it can be used for pesticide and herbicide to improve effect, increase solubility and decrease toxicity. In the filed of breeding, it can replace effectively antibiotics after formulation, have people eaten health meat;
2. As excellent surfactants, it can be used for making natural shampoo. In architectural field, it can be added to foam concrete as a foaming agent or foam stabilizer, because it has the effects of deleting lipid, promoting the suspension of aluminum powder, inhibiting degeneration of cement, and the stability of liquid stuff pouring, and improving the cellular structure and quality of products.
